Taking Chances

It didn't dawn on me until I sat down to write this post, but when I look at these photos - more specifically at what I'm wearing, where I am, who I'm with, and how I got there - I can't help but think of one thing ... taking chances.

I'm sure that doesn't make much sense at all to any of you, so let me explain.

From your vanatage point this picture portrays not much more than a cute outfit with a pretty extraordinary backdrop. Can't say I disagree! The outfit is one of my favorites to date, and the background is one that most certainly cannot be beat. I'd even go as far as saying it's one of my favorite views! Little do you know however is that up until about two months ago, I would have told you I would never wear a denim skirt. For starters, they take me right back to high school, and more importantly - I could never pull it off. Or so I thought..

As you can see from above, my desire to try and curiosity to see if I could indeed pull of a denim skirt got the best of me, and here I am standing sixty-five floors above Manhattan in a denim skirt. And I absolutely love it! The skirt itself is so cute, so flattering, extremely comfy, and oh so versatile. I can't even believe I almost never gave it a shot! Take a chance with fashion - I'm almost certain you'll be pleasantly surprised, and never forget you can always put your own personal touch on any piece.

And now for the mystery person behind the camera. She is way more than just someone who helped me snap a few pics on Top of the Rock. She is actually someone I met a little over a year ago in London, and then we proceeded to become really good friends with while we explored Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Barcelona and more.. (you can read more about that here!). Prior to September of 2016, I didn't even know she existed let alone that we would be exploring New York City together in October of 2017. Pretty amazing if you ask me, and all because I decided to take the biggest chance of all...

My trip to Europe in September of 2016.

For those of you who have been following along since then, I'm sure you know all about Europe and how it was one of the best things I ever did. But, for those of you who might be new here, let me fill you in! After graduating from nursing school, I decided to go to Europe for thirty days, with forty strangers I had never met before. The fact that I would be travelling for an entire month with no one I knew didn't even phase me because I was just so excited to get out there and see the world. The experience ended up being more than I could've ever imagined. It was the best thirty days, filled with the most incredible experiences, sights, people, and of course food. I think about that trip every single day and will be forever grateful that I decided to take quite the chance and do something that not everyone would.

The point I'm trying to make with this post is to take all the chances you can in this life of ours. Whether they be a tiny little chance, like stepping out of your comfort zone and wearing a denim skirt, or a much bigger chance, like traveling Europe for a month with no one you know. I can't help but feel like we are always better off after we have taken the chance on something than we were before, even if all we gain is knowing we tried. Often times the bigger chances, although riskier, end up bringing the biggest rewards.

It is safe to say that if it had not been for me taking that chance and going to Europe, I would not have been exploring NYC with not one, but three friends I met in Europe, and I am certain this post would also not have been coming your way. As far as the denim skirt is concerned, maybe eventually I would've found the courage to give it a try, however I am glad I didn't wait around much longer. I now have many more outfit options, and I'm so glad I am able to share it with you all sooner rather than later!

Take some chances. I promise you, you will be happy you did.
